| American Roulette |
An American Roulette wheel consists of 38 numbered slots: 1 to 36, a zero, and a double zero. The betting set up consists of every single number as well as a host of combinations of numbers or "outside". - Atlantic City Rules
In Atlantic City all even money bets (red, black, odd, even, 1-18, 19-36) follow a version of the European "imprisonment rule". In the event the ball lands in 0 or 00, the player loses half of any even money bet. This lowers the house edge to 2.63% on the bets. The principle does not apply on single zero wheels.
The double zero discrepancy in case of American roulette changes the house advantage from 2.7 percent (in case of the European Wheel). You might wonder that there is no discrepancy between American roulette and its European version. With regard to the arrangement of numbers on the wheel, the pattern is rather even, with high, odd, low and even landings. The green zero and double zero numbers are on the opposite sides of the wheel, with alternate odd or even numbers, which are randomly distributed. In fact, the table layout of American roulette conforms to the following pattern:
Red or Black, Even or Odd, Low or High, Column, Dozen, Straight Up, Split, Street, Corner, Five and Line.

European Roulette |

The rules of European Roulette specify that the game be played on a single wheel featuring the favorable "en prison" or imprisonment rule, where if the player makes an even money bet (on the red, black, odd, even, 1-18, 19-36 numbers) and the ball lands on zero, they either get half the bet back or become "imprisoned". If the imprisoned bet wins on the next spin, it is discharged and the player gets it back, without a winning.

France:
In Casinos Barrieres (a casino chain along the coasts of France), the stake is put on an "even chances line". For example, the wager is put on the line below the red diamond if the player bets on red and the ball lands in zero. On your next spin - if it is red - the bet is freed. If your spin is black, you lose the bet. If the following spin or spins are green, the bet remains on the line until a black or red spin settles it. The player can also go for losing half the bet. Both these alternatives have a house edge of 1.3514%.
Hamburg:
A few casinos in Hamburg follow the "La Partage" rule, where half the even money bets are returned if the ball lands on a zero. The house edge on this is 1.3514%.
Berlin:
Some of the casinos in Berlin follow the "en prison" by imprisoning even money bets if the ball lands in zero. The bet is returned if it wins on the next spin. If a zero landing occurs on the second spin, the bet is lost. The Berlin rule card says the player may request the croupier/caller to move the "imprisoned" bet from an even money bet to another. The house edge is 1.3879%.
Spain:
In Spain, a bet can become imprisoned for unlimited times. If the ball lands in 0 'n' times continually, it must win 'n' times in a row too. Perhaps, another zero, trying to end the layers of imprisonment, would cause the bet to lose. The house edge under this rule is 1.3704%.
Holland:
In Holland, if 2 zeros occur in a row, the bet becomes double imprisoned and two winning bets in a row must occur to quit it. In case of a variation, including more zeros, the bet is lost. The house edge is 1.3706%. The player can also get half back immediately. |

Orphelins (Orphans): A bet on the 8 remaining numbers: 1, 6, 9, 14, 17, 20, 31, and 34.
Finales en Plein: A bet on all numbers ending in a particular digit. For example, Finales en Plein 3 is a bet on 3, 13, 23, and 33.
Finales a Cheval: This is a bet on all numbers ending in either of two digits. Like, Finales a Cheval 2/5 is a bet on 2, 5, 12, 15, 22, 25, 32, and 35. |

No Zero Roulette
